The three levels of the study path are:
• Certificate courses
• Diploma programs
• Bachelor of Arts Degrees

1. Certificate Courses

Most of SAE’s study program's are aimed at career oriented individuals who wish to pursue a profession in the audio, multimedia or film industry. For those students that prefer to follow a less intense study, with a shorter duration, SAE INSTITUTE offers short Certificate courses. A Certificate course is intended to provide a complete overview whilst starting with the basics. These courses can be attended part-time and are aimed at candidates who are interested in education at a semi-professional level.
SAE in the Netherlands currently offers two Certificate courses:

  • Electronic Music Production
  • 3D Graphics and Animation
Both the 3D Graphics and Electronic Music Production Certificate programs are offered in Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Both courses incorporate theoretical lectures and individual practical time.

Throughout a Certificate study a student is regularly examined to verify progress. These examinations are conducted by means of written theory tests as well as by assessment of practical skill.
Our Certificate courses are our entry-level training programs and there are no specific prerequisites for prior knowledge or experience. Upon request a personal interview can be arranged with the college manager/course coordinator to establish suitability.

2. Diploma Programs

SAE Diploma Programs are designed to combine in-depth theory knowledge with extensive practical experience. These programs are designed specifically for those wishing to reach a professional level using our time efficient and goal oriented methods. This is professional training at it's most efficient, providing the student with the very latest technology and only dealing with the most relevant theory material. We offer three Diploma Programs:

  • Audio Engineering Program
  • Web Design and Development Program
  • Digital Film Making Program

Along with thorough theoretical tuition, the student is guided through various practical exercises, professional practical projects and productions on an individual basis while supported by experienced instructors. The duration of the diploma stage varies between 12, 15 and 21 months.

All Diploma programs start with the Basic Media Certificate (Module 100). This 12 week introductory course is designed to ensure that all Diploma students have a suitable level knowledge of digital media before commencing the Diploma stage of their studies.

Objectives of a diploma Program

  • Fundamental theoretical training
  • Operational training, soft- and hardware
  • Working with modern technical equipment and applications
  • General knowledge of production techniques
  • Developing professional practical skills

3. Degree Programs

Degree Programs offered by SAE are the result of a partnership with Middlesex University in the United Kingdom. It is this partnership and a modern approach to academic training that allow SAE to offer these unique bachelor programs that can be completed as quickly as 24 months.

For all successful Diploma Program graduates, a Bachelor of Arts Degree can be achieved by extending their studies by just 12 months. This is known as a progression year. The Diploma Program represents 50% of the study points required to be awarded a BA Degree.

  • Bachelor of Arts(hons), Recording Arts
  • Bachelor of Arts(hons), Multimedia Arts
  • Bachelor of Arts(hons), BA (Hons) Film Making

During this progression year, the focus of study shifts from the practical hands-on approach of the Diploma stage to a more academic overview of the industry. Study areas include economical perspectives, business and legal studies, industry perspectives, cultural issues, advanced industry applications, communication skills and a specialized research project. The Degree Program relies to a large extent on the student’s ability to take initiatives in the examination and investigation of the chosen area of study, whilst producing theoretical essays and research projects independently. Upon completion of study the student is expected to submit a professional thesis to be presented to a panel of independent adjudicators.
