The concept of the Audio Club is quite simple... Every Friday morning, students from all classes are welcome to join activities that go from equipment making (Pre-amps, DI boxes) to exciting demos, or seminars on any subject we feel could be a benefit to the regular Audio Engineer or EMP curriculum.
In another audio club here for students at SAE Sydney, a professional audio power supply was created. This enables students to fully understand the intricacies that go into designing audio equipment. This will be the first of a three -part series, culminating with students building their own microphone pre-amp!

Serious business!
The latest audio club has seen students pull apart a working console, the Yamaha 02R and study its internal makeup, including PCB boards, Capacitors and Input, Output cards. While open, the students took the chance to repair a fairly well known internal issue with our 02R, a slow key trigger on one of the recall buttons, no doubt a result of its constant use by the student body. The students showed off their soldering skills as they navigated their way carefully through the console, under strict supervision by our Audio Lecturers, who then inspected the first rate job done by the attendees. The 02R is now back in its studio and being used to its maximum capabilities.

Again another Audio Club success!
On Friday 19th of January, Smart AV's team will be bringing a full setup to the school, to demonstrate the amazing possibilities of the Smart Console with a Pyramix rig. Two demo sessions will be run: one at 11am, one at 4pm. The afternoon session bookings will only be open once the morning session is full - 30 students per session. Please contact the front desk to book your place.
Update: Students were thrilled by a demo led by none other than the man behind the Smart Console's concept himself, Michael Stavrou - a.k.a. Stav' for the fans of his regular columns in AudioTechnology magazine.

Students from First and Second Year studies attended and were treated to a truly detailed inspection of the advantages of Pro Tools 7.2, including some extremely usefull and time saving commands for editing and looping audio, as well as consolodating many of Pro Tools "in demand" features to make the time taken to execute them using the ICON extremely fast.
With the Digidesign ICON being the flagship of Pro Tools HD solutions, and featured in one of the many professional level studios here at SAE Sydney, students undertaking first and second year studies get to intimitely understand and operate the Digidesign ICON for audio engineering industry applications, such as stereo and 5.1 surround sound work."

Special workshops on the TL Audio equipment
will also be offered to first and second year students giving them
a detailed analysis of how the equipment can be utilised to its best
capabilities.
Already up and running are these three units above and below our Sony studio's protools system... |

Getting equipment is good... Cabling it is even better ! Pictured here are our supervisors Adam and Aaron, as eager to hear these Ivory series units as the students.

Even though Jason Voorhees had been invited for a special machete and hockey mask demo, Korg's specialist John Grant (pictured below playing the keyboard) was the exceptional host of this week's audio club, dedicated to Korg's monster synth: the Oasys - which features some of the most advanced audio editing, recording and sequencing options available outside of a program.
Students were shown the subtleties of the unit, along with a number of practical applications and important information about integrating the unit into the professional audio world.
